Introducing Atascocita and Kingwood Chiropractor Dr. Kevin OBrien

My career focus has always been on health care, and I made a commitment at a young age to help others. I initially struggled with what branch of healthcare was a fit for me.

I began my undergraduate degree as pre-med. After several long discussions with a medical doctor and close family friend I began to explore other avenues. My uncle, the dentist, recommended his career. After a summer research project at the University of Texas Dental School, I realized that dentistry was not for me.

I had never visited a chiropractic office until 1998. After visiting a great clinic in Austin, Texas, I really understood what chiropractors had to offer. I was inspired by how well one gets to know their patients and what a drastic change chiropractic care can make in a patient's life. I knew within minutes this was how I was going to help people.

I began my higher education with a degree in Biology from the University of Texas in Austin. Upon graduation, my desire to help others translated into receiving my Doctor of Chiropractic with Magna Cum Laude honors from Texas Chiropractic College. I practiced with another doctor in the area and opened my own practice in 2003.

I have a very simple, flexible approach to my practice: We are here to help you feel better. We have an "if it is broke, fix it" approach; after that, let us maintain a healthy lifestyle on your time. We explain everything in advance to help you make positive decisions that will get you back to living a healthy and active lifestyle (and keep you there).

I met my wife, Meredith, at The University of Texas in Austin, and we married in 1998. We relocated to Houston after graduation and moved to the Kingwood/Atascocita area in 1999 while I finished school. We have two beautiful daughters, Madeline and Kathryn. Much of my free time is spent with my family. My family and I get adjusted regularly and seem to avoid catching every cold or flu that goes around.

Working in the chiropractic field has also made me realize the importance of exercise and weight training. I take classes at Solis Martial Arts, focusing on Jiu Jitsu, and exercise regularly. Exercise and proper nutrition help me balance the physical and mental aspects of my life.

Dr. Kevin Asks some important questions of interest to Atascocita and Kingwood residents - Chiropractor Atascocita and Kingwood Dr. Kevin Asks...

What's a side effect?
It may sound like a bonus; something extra, but chiropractors know it should more accurately called an "unintended effect," and "unwanted effect" or in some cases an "adverse effect." A pill can't come close to matching your body's ability to create and deliver the essential compounds it needs. That's when it's important to make sure your nervous system is working correctly—the purpose of chiropractic care!
What's your plan to deal with drug-resistant 'super germs'?
Chiropractors have always been concerned with the indiscriminate use of antibiotics, accelerating the mutation of microbes that make "wonder" drugs increasingly ineffective. My strategy? Do everything possible to bolster my immune system through proper diet, rest, exercise, clean air, pure water and an optimally functioning nervous system with regular chiropractic care.
